TCAP PREP & TESTING
Dear Parents,
It’s almost that time again – standardized testing is right around the corner. We will be administering our test on April 17th-20th. You play an important part in helping students give their best performance on this important test. As you know, we have been busy preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate their learning. Even though this assessment is a snapshot—one single perspective – it is important that our students have every advantage to do their very best. We don’t want to cause test anxiety, rather we want our students to be as prepared as possible. There are many ways in which you can help your child put his/her best foot forward. The following guidelines can help set our students up for success:
The night before the test:
1. Make sure your child goes to bed on time so he or she is well-rested.
2. Keep your routine as normal as possible. Upsetting natural routines may make children feel insecure.
3. Be positive and confident in the fact that you know your child will do his/her best.
4. Plan ahead to avoid conflicts on the morning of the test.
The morning of the test:
1. Get up a few minutes early to avoid rushing and make sure your child arrives at school on time.
2. Have your child eat a nutritious breakfast. There is a strong correlation between eating breakfast and memory and cognitive functioning.
3. Have your child dress comfortably.
4. Be positive and communicate that this is your child’s chance to show what he/she knows. The most important thing you can do right before the test is to build confidence about doing his/her very best.
After the test:
1. Talk to your child about his/her feelings about the test.
2. Discuss what was easy and what was hard; discuss what your child learned from the test.
3. Explain that performance on a test does not define him or her as a person. It is just one opportunity to demonstrate learning.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. Together we can make a difference!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Harris
Dear Mom & Dad,
Our supplies has already begun to dwindle. We survived the 1st nine weeks but Mrs. Harris' class room stash of supplies is almost no more. If you would like to make donations to help us continue to be equipped for learning, please see our wish list. We thank you in advance for your support and donations. It is TRULY appreciated! Sincerely, Mrs. Harris' S.S. Classes |

2nd Nine Weeks Reminders
Congratulations! We have successfully completed the 1st Nine Weeks as 6th graders!! We have learned & practiced all classroom rules & procedures. And students have been made aware of all expectations. With that being said, I want to ask each of you to help me remind students that although they may feel more comfortable with the middle school setting, they are still being held accountable for coming to class on time, prepared, & ready to learn.
This includes:
1. Bringing paper, pencil, & textbook to class everyday.
2. Writing their name on their work.
This has become a MAJOR issue in every class. I informed all students in August that penalty points (-10) are taken if they fail to write their name on their work. Many are losing unnecessary points due to this simple task.
3. Turning in their work complete AND on time.
4. Keeping ALL assignments and never throwing them away (until instructed). We use it for our nine weeks notebook check and to review for midterm & final exams.
I have enjoyed teaching ALL 150 of my babies thus far and so proud of their transition into middle school. I want them to keep the momentum going. I also want to sincerely thank each of you for all that you do to support us at home. I have met many of you at open house and p/t conferences and I am truly blessed to teach in a school that has an out pour of parental involvement. Team work makes the dream work!

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Below is a list of core assignments that make up your child's average for social studies. Your child is not only learning history in my class but how to be accountable, responsible, and organized students. I strongly believe that these 3 things will help him/her be successful far beyond 6th grade. If your child's average is not in good standing, he or she is more than likely missing work. Please understand that our school policy will allow your child 3 days to turn in missing work. If not turned in by then, the grade will remain a zero. In order to keep that from happening, I would suggest that you check your child's agenda often because I do write missing assignments and notes in them. Lastly, I recommend that you sign up for Skyward Family Access so that you too can keep an eye out for missing assignments or to just simply keep up with his/her progress. It is an excellent tool!
if at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via phone, email, or text. You will find all of my contact information below. Thank you so much for your support.
Core Assignments Include:
1. Chapter Vocabulary: Assigned at the beginning of every new unit/chapter. Students are given ONE week to write/define all terms within the chapter.
2. Bell Work: Answer questions daily, review with the class, make corrections if needed, then turn it in every Friday.
3. Outline Map: Identify, label, and color a map for each region/unit.
4. Notebook/Binder Check: ONE will be given for each nine weeks grading period. Students are instructed to keep their binders organized and to NEVER throw anything away unless instructed.
5. Chapter Test: usually given bi-week;y but not on specific days. The length of the chapter determines when test day will be.
6. Enrichment/Hands-On Activities
**Grades are not weighted**
